For Sale Cove Hummer - Ti frame - £175

Steel forks used to be lighter.
I blame liability lawyers.

But if you want disc brakes and wide tyres (and compare like for like), a steel frame is 70% the cost of ti, and could save a kilo - I mean, the steel frame needs fork too after all.

A customer of ours rode lejog on an £80 6 speed raleigh pioneer with the plastic canti arms
Another used a £3000 carbon Cannondale with ultegra hydro discs.

I don't think their fun and memories relate directly to the purchase price or weight of their bikes😂
Mind you, the lighter setup makes it weight felt once you get up here and find out we have no roads.

Titanium bikes have their place, but they are not the Holy Grail for everyone.

Haven't toured on one, but the latest fad for wide tyres closes the gap material wise. If I was to spec for a genuine long hauler with accommodation for those blimps I wouldn't worry about an extra kilo or two of frame material.

When you get into the 'high end' pricing, the frame material isn't a huge factor in pricing, and you can spec Ti for a small-ish premium.

Will be interested to see if that frame turns up repaired at some point. Meanwhile the Plymouth one is on offer for £350 to watchers..
