Could anyone Date this bike for me?

They're heavy (and they either need a booster plate or beefed up stays to work properly meaning even more weight) but their biggest sin is to clog like you wouldn't believe.

The extra braking power is a bit pointless on the rear, especially for how we ride today. In the past it made more sense as people would hang way off the back on steep descents so that the rear wheel would be forward of the CoG and thus a powerful rear brake had a point. U-brakes were ideally suited for this as they don't stick out like cantis and so doesn't jab you in the thighs while hanging off the back.

My Talera is of a 1992 Vintage, Basicly the same bar the paint job. This one also had 200GS Chainset and LX mechs.

iirc they were next to the bottom of the range just above the Outpost, And this one was £220 new, I remember this as the bike was my mums and i picked it up for her in from the shop i worked in.

Still here after 16 years so they cant be that bad a bike

Do you find the reach really short on your talera? and how hard to convert to single speed?

Looks nice in white :( much better than grey!

Look ok dont they, I got them with the brakes of the bay for £35 i think, I reckon with the red brake pipes and the red bead on the tyres its looks fine for an old dog.

Reach wise it is a bit short yes, But saying that it is a 14.5 inch frame, But as i'm only 5' 8" it rides ok.

Single speeding it was easy enough, Just pull the mechs off, shorten the chain and its done then as and when parts came up either for this or my other bikes i added to it, Then i found a NOS road chainset on Ebay for £4 fitted that, then a singlespeed kit of Ebay for a tenner to replace the rear Cassette, Being a tight wad instead of buying a tensioner i just pulled the cassette apart and tried different sprockets till i found one which worked ok with a good speed as well. Pair of new Kenda Kinetics off Ebay for a tenner and so far so good. All in all because the bike was a freebie i doubt i've spent more than £50 on it.

Came into my possession looking like this a few years ago.

And now looks like it does in my earlier picture.

So, Ideally, what should I be looking to pay for a set of magura's?

There is a set on ebay for sale by a guy in southampton, but they are missing one of the posts....

Should i stay clear?

And, single speeding, andone able to give me a complete how to? might as well get some use out of the thing, I dont think its worth much, so might as well frankenbike it!
