Cottered Bottom Bracket Axle Length

Hi all, I'm in the process of building a bike that will be driven by a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub and a Williams C34 crankset. I've assembled most of the bits but I'm stuck on how to determine the length (& configuration) of the BB axle. The BB shell is a non-standard 65mm. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Re:

Not much help, but the chainline would be 1 1/2 inch, that is from the centre of the seat tube. The C34 normally would use a short axle.

The frame came with Ellis Briggs decals. But it's not one of their hand built lightweights. Judging by the fork rake, lug style and other signs (including frame no. stamped on head lug) I'm guessing at late 1940s early '50s. It appears to have been built for a Sturmey Archer gear as there is a lack of braze-ons to support a derailleur mech. If it did come from EB's shop I guess it would have a frame bought in and built for the mid/entry level market.
I'd post some photos if only I could work out how to!!
