What should I do to save my old Marin Team frame's tubes? I'm thinking about Hammerite or sg similar to prevent corrosion, and linsead oil... What do You think?
I've read the link to the Road Bike section, and also the subsequent link to the review of Framesaver, but is Framesaver just a corrosion inhibitor intended to prevent rust forming? I have a frame with rust inside the tubes already which ideally needs treating first to stop the corrosion, I was thinking of using Dinitrol rust converter (as I've used it on cars to good effect in the past), and then I'd need to apply Framesaver or equivalent?
Yes, Framesaver forms a waxy coating and also has a vapour rust inhibitor.
It won't do the rust conversion, just seal it over, so a treatment with a converter is excellent idea.
Both treatments produce black/brown staining, so watch your paintwork.
Go and have a look at ACF50.Its from the states and the Yanks use it in the aerospace industry including on there aircraft carriers due to the high salt content in the air.Its great stuff and will stop any corrosion that has started.I use it and also sell it
