Dear all

I just got back from Sunday lunch at the local carvery. Pints of ale were consumed so forgive this potentially stupid and amateur question.

Q: I have a 1988 specialized rockhopper comp with FH-M452 hubs. The chain link pins are catching on the rear cassette (7 speed) causing rough running. It's worth noting that the current chain needs replacing as it is quite stretched. The bike has UG chain fitted. Is this the correct chain for the 7 speed cassette.

links to web based potential replacement chains would be good :)

Thanks in advance.

I believe IG(slightly narrower than HG) chains will shift the best on any 7speed cassette as well as any 800 series Sram or 8sp KMC chains. I do however think Shimano chains shift the best of all, by a small margin. If you ride often, replace the drive chain yearly, it will cut tooth wear to your cassette. If in fact, your chain is stretched badly then I suspect your cassette will require replacement as well.
Cheers
