Stop all the this talk.
As a teenager i read about Biopace in the german Bike Magazine and went to my local bike store and ask the man in charge there about this stuff.
He gave me a strange look and asked me: "Have i ever sold bullshit to you!?"
That's when the Biopace story ended.

...but not the 'out of round' or 'oval' or 'elliptical' chainring story.
It began before the BioPace story began, and continues.
That's because they work extremely well and are not bullshit at all.
It's a great shame that Shimano ruined the market by producing a complete cock-up of the concept.
I speak with more than twenty years experience with round and EggRings, on different bikes, of course.

...and here is the set-up I use most of the time I'm riding...

@GeoffApps: Of course you are right. To be exact i have zero experience with this oval tech thing. I just remembered this funny Biopace story that happened to me. That's all..no offence from my side :)

Though GeoffApps has dug up a 3 year old thread and pointed it to a much newer thread. Nowt wrong with that but peoples opinions may have changed.... probably not though

...and a very good BioPace story to boot!
No offence taken!
Your LBS owner is obviously a perceptive cycle engineer, assuming he understood all the technical aspects.
I am thinking that perhaps he didn't, or he would have mentioned the orientation issues.
My principle concern is that EGGrings, which I know to be wonderful life-enhancing product, isn't flushed down the toilet along with other very dubious stuff, simply because people don't know about it.

Sorry, with my wide photo, I've gone and made this thread so wide it goes off the edge of the screen and you have to scroll along to read these very long lines of text that seem to go on for ever and ever............

I've mentioned both EggRings and Clelands in a thread over on Singletrack recently, and the 'right sort' of people seemed both interested and fascinated. Eggrings would benefit most riders I think, but the problem is getting the message across and the price down.

I rotated mine to improve the effect - Shimano got it wrong. Two turns anti-clockwise improved them no end, we all used to do it.

Yes exactly, i have this set up on my singlespeed and it makes hill climbing a lot easier even though getting optimum chain tension is a bit of a nightmare!!

WAS Biopace cool? Well yes it was.....when it first came out it was the next index/hyperglide/spd step forward by Shimano. Probably their first banana peel.
