It was, allegedly, the largest single piece magnesium blast moulding ever done at the time, pushing the casting technology to the limit...COOL
Although the kit looks a bit dodgy:

And they fully recycled all the ones that didn't pass the Quality checks (which was apparently up to 50% of production some days

All the Kirk-related info in existence to be found here.

All the best,

danson67 - Now that link and those photos are far cooler than the actual frames  - they remind me of the plastic injection moulding company I used to work for (the tools and presses look similar!) I'd still rather have one of the Taiwanese imports though >>>

Re:

Cool!

if they were 2k bikes they'd be up there with the likes of yeti, kestrel, klein, manitou...... yadayada..... just out of looks.

I think the fact they were so affordable made them common and undesirable to many of us, I mean.... shimano A20 ! C10!

Wow, takes me back.

Interesting bikes BITD. I remember doing a GCSE design project on them -- using some of my awesome physics skillz to work out what an equivalent steel frame would weigh. Shame I can't remember the exact numbers (and my maths was a little shiny!). I seem to remember the steel coming out lighter for a similarly flexy frame.

I guess that was the problem. Interesting idea, and they looked cool. Didn't actually solve any problems though. And (heresy in an MTB forum) they always made more sense, and looked better, as a road bike.

Still can't decide which way to vote though...

Definitely like marmite.. I like the fact they tried new things, but visually not my cup of tea, always thought they looked cheap... Still it would be very boring if we all liked the same! But it's Uncool for me..
