Since this is retro chat and we have the arbitrary 97 as the cut off. Would you say then your vote is based on the 94-97 period? When Tinker Missy Myles et al super team era?

For me those riders were much cooler before they rode for Cannondale; when I think of Tinker it's on a Klein, or for Missy and Myles it's as Yeti riders. Way cooler than being sponsored by Volvo.

I made the point way back earlier in the thread that it's not about the individuals bikes or riders - it's about the brand. Those riders didn't add anything for me, if anything they lost 'coolness' by being part of something so corporate that it changed the game for everyone.

So no, for me it's based on a brand image across the retro spectrum.

one thing that makes cannondale cool for me is the corporate image
possibly the first to do it (in mtb way) but they still innovated
in a grass roots way , their connections with alex pong added to this
and miles missy franck and tinker did too
for me there was a connection that generalised lacked their
stuff and image was boring , ned was a top cyclist but his image
was a bit staid

cannondale were very much like gt in the good days
an innovative cool company that produced desirable bikes

I'd agree with all of that, apart from 'cool'.

Those things don't go hand-in-hand - there's nothing radical about a Fat Chance, but it's cool, right?

Cool is ineffable - it's just easier to say what isn't cool.

Yes. That would fit. The transition from New England builder of handmade bicycles to automobile company sponsored mega-team considering motorcycle production would about do it. Or more easily said, when the CODA XYZ bar ends were introduced!

In my mind, Tinker was a Klein guy, Missy rode Yeti, Tomac was Raleigh-boy etc... The Volvo Cannondale Team never held the same cache as the smaller budget box van teams. Volvo Cannondale was just VW Trek.

"Volvo Cannondale was just VW Trek."
ouch thats a real kick in the stones ,you might be right tho

well marketing hyped , not dissing them ,just havent yet bought into the
image yet
