No, I've definitely drifted out a 1" threaded headset and replaced it with a 1 1/8" AheadSet...

Was it tight

Amazing how your memory can play tricks on you the older you get; I would have put money on it that I had done just what I said above??

Could only have been 1 1/8" threaded I replaced with an AheadSet then...

Head tube internal diameter for 1" steerer = 30.0mm

......................................... 1 1/8"......= 33.8mm

...which is just the Std sizes

SOLVED 1 ISSUE F@kD ANOTHER

the headset shims sound greaT , in the end i actually found a solution, which is to use the 1" as is and replace the little (very technical) ball bearings with a load, think about 12 or so of larger ball bearings 1/4" ones,
unfortunately having fixed the stem in,hooray! found the bloody stem stuck, it did move a bit and drilled out the thing that draws the stem tight, got frustrated used a bigger and bigger hammer , then a sledgehammer and have now funked them completely.....

but did solve the headset thing and am getting a donor bike on friday!

bearings look like they work but didn't

no they didn't had to cobble together the cups! but in the end it did work!

Re:

Hi guys/girls. Not sure if this helps anyone out here. But I've been searching hi and low for ages trying to find a nice anodized headset for my 1" threaded forks as I didn't want black or silver, and didn't fancy paying £115 for a Chris king. I'm converting from threaded using the quill stem adaptor and just wanted a new look headset.
Now. Back to the point. Never posted here before and just joined to make this post. I found a company who seem to have plenty of good looking threaded 1" headsets. Now unless I've not been looking hard enough there doesn't seen to be many out there. So if anyone is in the market for a nice 1" headset try here

Good luck with the conversions.

Here is a very effective yet expensive option for you. the chris king devolution headset will allow you to use your 1" fork with a 1 1/8" headtube bicycle frame. The likelihood of finding one used is slim but if you are to buy a new one there should be no trouble locating one.
