Re: Kona Kilauea Help

Previous owner attested to a 27.0, which of course is not lying about in my spares box. Oh well something should sort out later as the build goes on.

Re: Kona Kilauea Help

A very melancholy and almost sad day for me  . Breaking the first bike I built for my oldest son. Most parts are to fuel the build for the Kilaeua. He has out grown this one and moved on to a GT Avalanche. Many a good day are remembered on this little Stumpy.

Good stuff! The tubing is Columbus Nivachrom http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... 7.jpg.html

Yep, one of the nicest steel frames (if not the nicest!) Kona ever produced in my opinion :D
Columbus Cyber Nivachrom tubeset, thin profile and very light. Even lighter than the Explosif from the same year.

That may be true but it hasn't got the ovalisation cool factor ;-) Joking aside, a top frame and should go like stink.

Re: Kona Kilauea Help

How much better are the Explosifs and Kilaueas to ride compared with a Cinder Cone or Lava Dome? I've always been super happy with my Lava Dome with TB P2 but then... have never ridden the higher end steel Konas... :?:
Don't tell me Lava Domes are crap though i've been loving mine since '96 and it was all i could afford at the time. Go easy.. LOL ;)

Re: Kona Kilauea Help

Had a '94 Cindercone way back in the day, 1st new MTB I ever purchased and loved it.
Miss her madly too. So what does that say?

Re: Kona Kilauea Help

She arrived yesterday, barely got her unpacked. Will follow up on some pics and build progress later this evening. All and all in ok condition, no BoTM candidate for sure. Will be good to thrash about on.

Re: Kona Kilauea Help

Brought her to work for an official weighing. 4.20 exactly for an 18" model.
Fairly respectable for a steel frame. If memory serves, same as my Hot. Feeling a little chuffed at the moment. :p
