£641.88 isn't outlandish – you could have easily spent two to four times that amount buying any new bike. I've lost count of how much I've spent on my trusty old bike over the years but the pleasure and usefulness it provides is priceless.
A bike weighing just over 21lbs isn't bad at all. Mine was advertised at around 25lbs (or 7lbs for frame and forks) back in the day. The frame was stripped and repowdercoated a few years back and seemed a lot lighter on collection.
After your build efforts, you have a bike that has personal meaning and is unique to you and that's worth more than the dreary Specialized Sirrus hybrid the bike dealers were trying to flog you.
