Devout Dirtbag
Hi Guys,

don't usually venture onto this side of the board but having no luck with the roadies. Anyway, I've got a commute which involves heavy traffic then a scramble across parkland ( gravelly cycle path ) then more heavy traffic. So I'm looking for a fixed frame bike that puts me in an upright riding position, (rider is 6ft) Could probably go 200GBP for a whole bike ?
Any suggestions gratefully considered....

how about a nice ribble? it has 531 frame and forks, 105 brake levers, 1 105 shifter and a rsx100 other shifter (d/t). shimano wheels cant remember which but they are black aero rims on shimano hubs ones a 20 and ones a 50 (model numbers) quite new and never been on a bike.
mostly rsx100 other bits, cinelli stem and bars. its my brother in law selling it but if your interested you can go through me.
its in good overall condition but the paint has seen a couple of chips but nothing major. all it needs is bar tape.
its got drops on it but flat bars and your upright, has horizontal dropouts if your a fixie nut complete with drilled chain tug eyes.
given its overall condition i would rate it as 7/10 with mostly new or nos parts.
just awaiting a price from him but it will be within your budget
he says its on ebay at the moment but would end it at £160
its a 55 cm frame size
hmm it seems he has done the bar tape, one of the wheels is a wh-500 shimano i think the other is a rs-20. anyway its this one:

Not a complete bike, but I have a '92 GT Karakoram frameset you could easily build up within budget that should be a perfect size for you:

It probably needs repainting though, unless you want it to look rough to avoid it getting nicked!

Looks like it was once a nice bike but that DIY paint job is so horrific it must have been a deliberate anti theft ploy ! Has he sprayed over the headset rings and the handlebar stem ? Much as I would love to undertake a full refurb, living in London I've got no outside space let alone a workshop ;-( so all my bike tinkering gets done at the local bike shop at my expense so I'll have to pass on this one...

The Ribble is very nice , possibly too nice for commuting ? Plus flat bars and new brake levers will put me over budget.
I've currently agreed in principle to buy Brabande's old Batavus off the Road For Sale thread but there's some confusion about where the bike is so if that one falls through I might come back to the Ribble..
