Coloured Candy lacquer over Chrome or Aluminium results

I recently bought a 1982 Cruiser bike with gold lacquered chrome rims which were pitted with rust. I had a slightly narrower set of rims that were good so I decided to spray the gold with my airbrush and gold candy lacquer which Cost £6.91.
I primed the area with a clear ultra gripper primer which is used n chrome or stainless steel .
This is the result ,I still haven't written off the original rims I'm just having a think on them.

Very nice. Interesting for me from a non mtb angle. Did you have any issues with oxidation prior to spraying or did you just do it as quick ad possible after rubbing down?

I just just masked up gave the rim a rub with a scotch pad degreased with acetone then primed with XL gripper then applied candy lacquer.

Yeah, you have cheered up what would be common or garden silver rims.

Why not go right to the border or the breaking surface?
And, use old rims to master the 'citron' or 'sunset' mavic colour offerings.

Ok. Might give XL gripper a shot. I've been silver leafing automotive parts with some success, but shag silver (alloy leaf) seems difficult to laquer over for prolonged stability.. tried several laquers, but maybe a grip primer in clear may be worth a shot.

Would ne interested to hear how it stands up to real life, sun, expansion, wet etc.
