Colnago

Hi I've just Purchase a secondhand frame to replace my Holdsworth, wondering what it is.... Its badged Colnago Painted bright red with Fully Chromed front forks ( which need rechroming !!) and the rear wheel lugs are Chromed and have "9D280 Colnago" stamped on them, Frame size is about 21" which I think will suit me better than my 24 1/2 " Holdsworth ( as I'm only 5ft 6 !!!) . It has Campagnolo Headset and FAF bottom bracket.

3 Questions :-

1) What is the Frame Name/Type, Date etc
2) Any recommendations for a good Chromer or Do I use a Car Chrome specialist ??
3) Given the Date What Group set and Wheels should I be Fitting, I'm thinking some NOS or Good S/H Campagnolo But not sure which range suits best, but I do have a spare NUOVO GRAN SPORT REAR MECH, is this the right era and quality, Campag stuff is so confusing !!

All Help and advice appreciated

PS Dont ask I'm not selling the Holdsworth - Its part of the family !!

Hi There sorry for delay, have been traveling on business. Pictures attached, any help appreciated.

I worked in a bike shop in the 80s and we used to sell FAG sealed bottom brackets with those wide plastic flanged cups

By all accounts, a good quality "fit & forget" item for the price, although they can be a pain to remove as the softish plastic cups chew up easily. IIRC Kinex still make something similar, sometimes sold under licence by Stronglight.

we had a big cast alloy splined tool that worked great for installations, and never once did I remove one , I also remember the BB name nadax for some reason too

I just googled them and the black plastic FAG was the cheaper and the Fag Nadax Favorit the dearer alloy unit

I have those BBs on both my tandems - they seem to have brilliant bearings. Usually the tandem chews up a set in a couple of thousand miles.
