Hello - I recently picked up a Colnago frame - and from initial guess it looks early 1980s. It has all the usual identifying marks etc to suggest its a Super or Mexico but there a few odd items that are throwing me . Any help in identifying the frame would be much appreciated.
the odd items -
Only the top tube is crimped like Mexico - the other main tubes are round.
2 cable guides on the u/s of the top tube - all other Colnagos I have seen either have none/ cable guides on top of the top tube / internal.
The frame has been resprayed in late 1980s (judging by colours!).
I dont see any evidence chrome on the frame - but could be under the respray.
Ther are no tubeset decals on the frame.
I'm sure the forks are not the original ones.
Frame size seat tube 52 cm c/c, head tube 53 cm c/c.
Frame number ‘333’ stamped on bottom bracket, 'B’ stamped on drive side rear drop-out.
Details:
Bottom bracket with ‘club’ cut-out
Bottom bracket with brazed on cable guides underneath
Crimped tube (like Mexico frames) - top tube only
Colnago decorative head tube lugs
‘Club’ cutout in headtube/ downtube lug
2no. rear brake cable guides on underside of top tube
Front derailer braze-on
Shifter braze-ons on down tube
Chain stays – stamped on sides ‘Colnago’
‘Colnago’ short rear drop-outs
‘Colnago’ stamped fluted seat stay caps
Dual taper shaped seat stays
‘Club’ logo stamped on brake bridge centre cube (solid not outline)
Recessed allen key rear brake bolt
Rear Derailer cable stop on underside of chainstay
‘Bobbin’ shape chain stay bridge
forks Chrome
Columbus fork blade stickers
Internal rifling on steerer – 5 ribs
Aero fork crown
Recessed allen key brake bolt
Columbus ends
No Colnago logos or identifying marks
Any help is really appreciated
Many Thanks! :?
