mapei

Dirt Disciple
I am fortuned owner of Colnago c40 mapei, in a weak moment i put it up for sale, but i have realised that restoration, bringing it back to its original state would be more fun.

Do anyone know what year its from, myg guss is 1998 - pre b-stay and star fork.

what component group did the team use?

what kind of wheels/rims did they use racing Paris Roubaix?

My bike is identical to the one on the attached picture

regards
Eirik

Pre-BStay C40 was in production up until 2000 - groupset would have been 8-speed DuraAce 7400 with STIs and for Paris-Roubaix, wheels would have been classic Ambrosio Synthesis or Nemesis on DuraAce

tks!
If the b-stay came in 2001 and the star carbon fork came in 1998, and the 7700 groupset came in 1996, it could have had the 7700.

the bike actually got a 7800 groupset (7800 came in 2003) - ugly crankset. It suddenly stroke me if the b-stay came in 2001, that this actually is a 1999/2000 model, sold in 2003 with the 7800 Group.

Ambrosios Nemesis sounds like the ticket - Heavy googling confirmed your tips big time!! tks

I also have to find a proper saddle.

I have the same one - bought in the US. IT is a Team replica of MAPEI's 2000 Teambike - They rode it with Shimano 9-Speed 7700 Groupset.
The used steering HS-7410, which has beam reamed from the winding. Fro stem they assembled the frame set mostly with a ITM Milenium Ahead.
combined with an ITM Pro 260 bar.

Wheels are different, somtimes the used Ambrosio (Nemesis tubulars), FIR (Pulsar tibulars) or others - they have no official wheels or rims sponsor.
Seat post was a SP-7410 27.2 together with a Adapter to the 28.0 of the frame. Saddle was mostly from San Marco or the typical Flite Titanium.

I will built it up with a complete 9-Speed DA 7700 and a pantographed ITM Millenium. The wheels will made of DA 7700 at the rear and a 7400 at front
together with a set of 32 holes FIR Pulsar rims.

Sorry one question - Did you get this Photo from a ebay auction or from www. - Sorry my frame set was subject of this auction of @gearheadpartsandstuff from Florida. here a pic of mine and a pic with Tafi and Bartoli in action at 2000s Tour of Flanderen on their C40s. Bartoli used a Precisa steel fork not the star

Re:

Race photo confirmed my suspicions that Tafi used a different stem , is that an ITM Big One ?
Also I think Vittoria Corsa CX tyres , or were they running tubs ? :?
Whatever the spec , it's a fantastic bike to look at
Here's some 'bar bling for you too ;)

I think you are right Taffi used a ITM Big One, painted in the same light blue like the steering tube
see this pic it's really an ITM Big One

you can also see that he also used a Spinergy wheel labeled as an Ambrosio at the rear - front wheel will be a tubular Ambrosio DUREX rim.

Re:

Great tks for lot of interesting information, i like the researc/history part of this!

My bike got ITM Millenium bar, and ITM pantographed stem (something, Tange headset...,

it came with a set of mavic ksyrium sl, and and a pantographed seatpost, or at least the clam for the selle seat.

Gridno27 - i saw the cateye, awsome!!
Mike Muz 67 - yes i stole the Pictures,

I am pretty sure the 7800 Group was the original set up. I am not very happy about it, but can live with most of it, part for the crankset, looking for Ambrosio nemesis or FIR Wheels with DA7700, + New saddel, possible headset!! I picked it up for 900 usd so i can spend some more on this historical beauty.

i have attacehed to many grumy Pictures sorry!, couldent help it i also had to brag about my daily raid...

regards from Norway!

..can you see this Taffi pic - it's from 2002 and the bike is the 2002 monostay version. See the groupset it's a DA 7700 - DA 7800 had equipped the 2008 Bejing Olympic Champion Bike for e.g. In 2000 the last time of non-monostay C40 they used Shimano DA 7700 surely.

see here Taffi's 2002 with the full techn. specification (also with Shimano DA 7700)
