Thanks .. I'm gonna post a quick pic of how it is now.. the paint work is original so it's far from perfect.. I keep debating if I should get it re done or leave it?

Also got some rock shox indy I'm debating to put on.. I sanded them down then thought twice about using them

I got my stickers off Gill.. put some new xt brake blocks on .. black handle bars .. few bits, I'm wanting a black seat post and orange seat then mayb done?

I got her out today to check numbers.. last time I rode her I fell on a small muddy hill lol. So I threw it in shed and it's been at the back under everything else since. Hoping to try get some use out of it now for fishing all bring well. Still need a seat

I don't suppose you know what bottom bracket would fit my orange? It's suntour 1992 original parts.. I'm sure iv got a bit of a clunk goin on at times but I'm useless with sizes. I THINK it's 68mm? But unsure if there's anything else I need to take into account... and also what tool would I need? Ideally i could do with links to bottom brackets that would fit on ebay along with the tool needed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't suppose you know what bottom bracket would fit onto this do I could continue using the crank I have? I feel a slight slip.. iv been using the bike for fishing down the canal. There was a group of mountain bike riders sat around a bench with brand new 29ers .. they were all staring as I slowly rode past.. I'm pretty sure they were pointing at my old arse bike ah well it gets me about. 30 years old now.

Think I'm gonna change the seat and grips when I can along with the bottom bracket.

Nice bike you have there @Masterleafman, I really like the Suntour parts as well.

For the bottom bracket you may get by with a cleaning and a repack of clean grease assuming its rebuildable. I'd guess a Suntour unit of this era would be. You'll need special tools to remove and reinstall it, if the bearings are worn they can easily be replaced but if the bearing races are worn it would be better to source a modern square taper Shimano unit which are designed to be service free sealed units.

If you source a new one measure the width of the bottom bracket shell where the cups thread in, it'll be 68mm or 73mm wide, most likely 68mm, then measure the spindle total length of the old one and match those two numbers when sourcing the new bottom bracket. Again you will need a special tool to install a modern Square taper bottom bracket also.

If you've never removed a bottom bracket before be sure to note that the drive side uses a reverse thread while the non-drive side is standard thread rotation.
