I've done 2 of the 3, Malaucene and Sault (but not Bedoin yet !) I guess like everything it's down to the rider not the bike, what with me being old and overweight (not exaclty a "natural" climbing physique) , I needed a treble up front and a 28 on the rear, I can't see (for me at least) any reason to not go a low as possible, I can honestly say not once did I ever wish for higher gearing on the way down
, and even when being overtaken (frequently) by full on race teams running 42-24's did I regret the 30 inner ring on the treble.
good luck , it's a totally surreal place and one of the few places where you can escape this planet for a day without resorting to space rockets or drugs
