I agree, matte clear coat would be better.
This was my first effort at this sort of thing and an experiment from beginning to end. After all, if I didn't like it, I'd just have the frame powdercoated.
I do wish I had taken a before photo.
I was working from the premise that, while I would hide the patchwork of paint quality, I would try to blend it together with a red wash.
Most of the texture you see is the roughness in the original paint. Some is a little too much clear coat.
