Claude Butler Frame number..

Retro Newbie
Hello all,
I have just acquired a Claude Butler frame that has been sprayed up at some point (badly!), so there are no distinguishing features to be had from the paintwork.

However the serial number can be made out to be 036537.

Has anyone any idea as to what it may be?

Thanks in advance...

Re:

Plenty of information on here, Holdsworth, Holdsworthy, and Claud Butler (CLAUD) frame numbers..
If you can post some sharp close up pics of frame details we can get a better idea of what you have.

Holdsworthy Co. bought the CB name and ran it for about 20 years. They had Freddy Grubb as cheaper CB as mid range, and Holdsworth their top make.

036537 is a holdsworth frame number and puts it slam bang in the middle of 1981, so that narrows the filed down to 6 bikes; Cresta, Majestic, Sovereign, Coureur, Italia or Colestar.
Photos and details of any parts (mfr stamped names etc) will help. Unfortunatly no register survives that links the frame number with exactly what bike it is.

Any photos?

Yeah, only small size allowed, you need to download them onto a PC, edit them (re-size) them down. I can’t rember exactly what size or max pixel, but you get a red text prompt that tells you what’s wrong. It’s a bit of an Achilles heal as more and more people access these sites with either a smart phone or tablet.

Re:

Looking at the catalogue descriptions given it would be a Cresta as the base paint is Violet Blue.
Still has the SR stem, bars and chainset with Weinmann brakes and wheels
