Claud Butler Cape Wrath - 1997 - 1st Project

Old School Hero
Dipping my toe in the evaporust and having a go at a Claud Butler Cape Wrath 97. Mostly because it was as mates bike of his when he was 17 and we'd ridden around on Zeniths and a Univega (long gone but wished I put them in the loft) with our Pals back in the day. Anyway gonna have a first time go with not a huge budget on getting this to a 95% catalogue correct with a few twists. Already had some guidance from folk on here which is very helpful. Here we go. Steep learning curve.

I've been taking the old decals and sticker glue off the forks this evening. Given I'm on a bit of a budget is there a way of touching up the paint chips so they look respectable for now rather than blast and spray ??

If you’re looking for correct decals for them, contact @gil_m at retrodecals. The ones on eBay are a poor copy.
As for touching up the paint chips, try hobby paint like humbrol. You might need to pick a cream & also buy a white & a black to mix in to help get it as close as possible.

Great stuff. Just about got all the stickers and glue off the frame and forks. Will sort out payment for decals asap and will get in touch with Gil too 👍- had to fork out on a couple new bits this weekend (right gear shifter was bust and sourced some better brake levers) initial budget starts to disappear with these projects the more you get into it 🙄 thanks again for advice.

Eventually got all the stickers off and the remaining glue - bought a few better parts from the internet and gonna start a bit of a put back together soon. 👍

...been a while but time escapes us all - I'm still cracking on with the old CBCW 97 and learning as I go - here are a few update pics for anyone who is bored. Thanks to the Forum members who have shone a light where I was lost, so far... wired a break up and checked out the ride - was canny. 12E0116C-27C3-4D1F-8BFE-FA017990ED06.JPG
