Claris 8 Sp RD/FD/SHIFTERS & 105 10 Spd Chainset what Chain?

Building up a road bike for my lad.

I am taking the Claris Road RD/FR/SHIFTERS off his current bike, along with a used 10 speed 105 Chainset. The cassette is an 8speed.

What chain can/should I use? 8 speed (will it work on the chainset) or 10 speed (will it work on the FD/RD/Casette).

8 speed should be fine.

So no issues with spacing on the 105 (10sp) chainset?
If I have a spare 10sp chain would it work, or just get a new 8sp to be sure?

Almost all chainsets are the same, with the exception of a handy 10speed sticker courtesy of the marketing department. Occasionally you get problems the other way round, with a narrow chain stick between chainrings on an old chainset. However the thickness of the teeth is the same.

10s chain will not work with 8s cassette, 8s speed chain will work with 10s chainset.
