I bought this frame off a Polish ebay seller in the spring of 2009. It was lurking around for a few weeks before being relisted again. I was looking for an intermediate Columbus-framed rig with chromed parts and this seemed to fit the bill. The 56cm (c-top) with a 54cm top tube is this perfect sized for me, so I couldn't give it a miss and hit the BUY IT NOW button. I think I paid €105.00 for it.

Allegro are a Switzerland-based manufacturer of high-end road bikes. You can read more about them on the classicrendezvous website: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Switze ... llegro.htm They seem to have been at their peak in the 1970's.

Initially I was going to build it up with period-correct Shimano 600 components (6400), but then I liked the high-polished look of the Shimano Ultegra 6500 groupset that was introduced in 1997.

So far I have the following:

Headset: Stronglight A9 1" inch threaded
Stem: NOS 90's 3ttt Quid
Bars: ITM "Supertraining" (90's stock)
Bar tape: Deda, silver
Seatpost: ITM aero (90's stock)
Saddle: Charge Spoon in grey
Brake levers: Tektro (new)
Brake calipers: Tektro (new)
Downtube shifters: Sunrace SLR90 9-speed indexed
Chainset: Shimano Ultegra 6500
Bottom bracket: Shmano Ultegra octalink
Front mech: Shimano Ultegra 6500 braxe-on
Rear mech: Shimano Ultegra 6500 short cage
Cassette: Shimano HG50 9-speed
Chain: KMC 9-speed
Wheels: Shimano Tiagra 4400 hubs laced to Mavic MA3 rims (36h)
Tyres: Michelin Pro Race in grey
Cables: Probably Jagwire Ripcord in silver
