2024 was a great year as far as acquiring Canadian bikes goes. I got bikes from three legendary Canadian makers; Marinoni, Brodie, and Chris Dekerf, in the form of this gorgeous purple '15/'16 Chromag Surface
It popped up on FB Marketplace one night for a ridiculous price, and I spent way too long thinking about whether or not to grab it. When I finally decided to go for it, the seller turned out to be a five minute walk away.
I'm pretty sure whoever bought it swapped everything over from a Specialized as it had Roval wheels and a Specialized bar and stem, which immediately got swapped out for proper Chromag parts. The chain was toast and the brakes squeal and don't do much. I have lots of time to deal with that though.
I had previously owned a Dekerf Team ST, and I sold it because I needed the money, and because I was just too heavy for that bike. It felt very soft, and I know now (I always knew this - it had a rider weight limit) that it had nothing to do with Dekerf's ability, because this bike is the stiffest SOB I've even thrown a leg over. It is awesome though and I LOVE it.
Darn right there's a bear in the area...
