cheapish parts for a budget build. (crankset, hydros etc)

Marin Fan
So you know those moment when someone mentions the dreaded word 'FREE' alongside your favourite bike brand and you find yourself 'accidentally' picking it up even though you realistically can't take any more projects on......

So I'm now the owner of yet another Marin. I was told Rocky Ridge but I'm not 100% on that to be honest. Anyway I now basically have a frame, forks and wheelset but nothing else. So wondering if anyone can help in sourcing some of the needed parts.

Please note this is a budget build, I've realistically got £100 to get it up and running as I'm in the middle of setting up a mental health support group which is draining my wallet quite rapidly. So I'm not looking for good parts, more for 'hand me downs', not worried about looks as long as they work as this bike will be used and used hard.

Parts I need are:

9 speed compatible crankset with bottom bracket.

Set of hydraulic brakes (not avid juicy but anything else considered)

30.9 seatpost (will need to check the size but that's what I've been told.

Also if anyone has a usable semi integrated headset lying around they would sell cheap it would be greatly appreciated (only need the bearings)

Thanks guys.

Re:

I have a plain black one in 30.9mm, an oe single bolt type. Can be seen on my Giant NRS thread.

£10 posted.

May have a headset too I will look later..

Re:

The guy who gave me the Marin just happens to be the same guy who gave me my old NRS (recently replaced with my beloved Trance)

I might have sorted a seatpost, it's the cranks and brakes I really need. There's a few other bits missing as well but they can be found cheap on ebay.

Re:

I've got a set of xt brakes I no longer need, see pics here:

I could probably help you out on other parts as well if you let me know what you need. I'll check if I've a spare set of 9 speed cranks.

Re:

How much for the brakes? And to be honest crankset with bottom bracket and brakes are the main things. I'll upgrade it later on with better parts if I can afford them but for now I just want to get it usable for an upcoming event.

Basically I need

Crankset with Bottom bracket ideally
Brakes
34.9 seat clamp
Rear wheel QR Skewer
30.9 seatpost (although that may be sorted)
And a semi integrated headset because I'm missing the bearings but looks like I can get that on ebay cheap.
Stem
9 spd cassette

A lot of the smaller bits I can find new on ebay cheap. Typical just scrolled through ebay listings and spotted a complete 27 speed deore setup for £60 and that was literally everything) problem was it was seconds before it ended and I couldn't bid on time

Re:

£30 for brakes. I can do most of the other stuff you need cheaply too. I'll pull a list of what I have tomorrow, still need to check I have cranks and bb.

I can offer a pair of hyd disc brakes - well a mixed pair - Giant front, Hayes 9 rear for £23 posted. Bit scruffy but working (although a service wouldn't hurt.)

Re:

Thanks for the replies everyone. Unfortunately I'm having to pull the plug on this project for a while (as well as selling my Orange and whatever else I can find.) due to transport related problems (bike go bye bye  ).

Don't you just love it when things go your way

Re:

Ok so after some sacrifices (I sold my motorbike :( ) oh well. I now have a little bit of a budget for the last few parts. I've bought a donor bike so have the essentials but need a couple of last bits if anyone can help. parts I need are:

34.9 seat clamp (will settle for anything that isn't that cheap chinese stuff as can get that on ebay for a couple of quid new)

34.9 front mech compatible with 3x9 setup

and finally, a stem for 31.8 bars. (have loads of stems but all 25.4  )
