From my experience XT chainrings don't require spacers on the middle rings, anything below seem to have the gold spacers, Most of your stuff Doug is XT isn't it ;)

Hmmm well its the only bit of LX on the Orange! (was still looking for an M737 XT chainset but the LX seemed ok lol...the rest is XT

Think i am going to try the washers tomorrow...attempted to cut some beer can ones tonight and got fed up! B&Q do washers with 10mm hole and 0.6mm thickness could be the just the thing...but knowing how things go it can't be that simple! lol

My guess would be that there were spacers originally which have gone astray or one of the rings isn' original?

All the rings were original and have now been changed for original shimano replacement rings and both sets of rings, old and new, have the same problem...

Re: Chain rubbing on outer ring when in the middle ring...He

Then there's definitely some spacers missing.

Re: Chain rubbing on outer ring when in the middle ring...He

This may sound stupid but is one of the rings the wrong way round or does it gave an offset on one side. My replacement one dud hence the need for additional spacers.

THM the rings are very one way specific...the outer has the pin on the outside edge, that lines up with the crank arm to stop the chain wedging between the arm and the outer ring...the middle has the ramp bits on the inner side to help the chain shift...

...so no don't think they are on back to front :p

Not necessarily but could be h where other was j or central in profile. Make sense?

...always with the riddles...

I thought you were in recovery, but sounds like you are on the sauce again! ;)

Offset teeth h = on the left j= on the right I = central. BP rising.
