CB World Champ Sprint Salvage

Got this frame a while back as it was cheap having a crack in the TT and no forks. Strangely found the matching forks on eBay and after some haggling they still cost me more than the frame. I was told the bars hit the frame and cracked it, bit odd as not dents, I guess it fatigued. There are some other pin holes too, but other than the TT all looks good. Accepting that it really needs a new TT I thought i'd try sleeve it, got nothing to lose! Having cut the frame it is rather rusty inside, but basically sound, not sure what the caused the pin holes, moisture in the tube I guess.

Anyway rolled a bit of mild steel 0.8mm plate round a broom handle and got the touch out. The only issue I found was having to role the tube smaller than I would have liked to get it to move into place in the frame, resulted in slight misalignment of the tube that will need some filler. The tube seems to be attached well around the holes as I filled the tube with Kurust afterwards and it didn't leak out.

Going to paint it and build it up with any period parts I have kicking around the garage.

I’m not so brave, I think considering it was always going to get a re-spray I think I’d have let a frame builder replace the TT. But only because I like my teeth

It may well end up that way! I guess as I don't rally need another bike I only intend to build it up with spares, could end up as 'garage art' for most the time.

I had a nice old CB frame in a similar state . Cracked seat tube etc . I weighted it in for scrap . Some times old frames just have to be recycled .

Making progress, bit rough in places! I think it will be a case of ride and look out for cracks in the paint!

First try out at the track. Went ok, bit heavy and low geared. Had to tighten the nut under the seat to hopefully make it more comfortable and stop it sagging. Nice ride though, keeping an eye out for signs of cracking again on the frame top tube.

What gearing are you running? Does look a bit low geared for the track.

yes, that's 44/15 as I was using up some old components. Just been for a ride on the road and its better for a casual run. I have been using 46/14 on the track and thinking of going to 13t on the rear as I was running out of RPM last week. Not on this bike I might add
