my 9 speed shimano cassette fell apart so i stripped it off and rebuilt it today, the 3 screws came loose.now when its back on the ringle hub there is a small gap between the main cassette and the smallest 2 sprockets, maybe 0.5mm gap, enough to allow it all to slide side to side and enough to prevent indexing working properly..
question is,is there a small spacer missing??

You might have lost one of the spacers that sits between the sprockets. Have a check to make sure there is one between each one. The last to are normally bult into the sprockets themselves. If you've got any missing, I've got plenty of spares. If they are all there, you'll sometimes need a 1mm spacer on some shimano cassettes, it fits on the freehub body before the cassette goes ok. Again if you need one, give me a shout. Hope that makes sense!

all the spacers are there for sure and the last 2 have built in ones,i think a 1mm at the rear would sort it if you have one..
cheers

I know that some hubs, especially Shimano, need a 1mm spacer behind the cassette. On some hubs these are pressed on to the cassette body but they can come loose. When this happens I usually use the steel spacer that comes with some of the older cassettes.
