Carrera singlespeed- completed(ish)

Finally got this finished today. Went round the block and it seemed fine (well apart from a stiff link throwing the chain off). First singlespeed so have two sprockets on the back until I find the right gear for me. After a read of Sheldon's site I think I'll try to go with a smaller chainwheel and sproket to get a nicer look and less weight but same gear. Going to do a few miles tomorrow to see how it goes and sort the riding position and get some better pics.

This was always a budget build, so far it's cost £77. I have some bits for sale which if they go should bring it down closer to zero. My Mum donated her old Saracen which provided most of the parts. :)

I'll update with pics and spec tomorrow but for now a teaser.

As it was when I got it.

Now. First ever strip and rebuild from scratch.

Will definitely be changing the gearing as soon as I find a suitable shiny silver chainring. And I'll try to get a seatpost clamp that doesn't bend the bolt when tightened. Other than that I might hack off the shifter bit off the levers. Also got a pair of LX pedals to fit once I've refurbed them with a rattle can. So not really complete but near enough, and OK to ride.

Already had some unwanted attention today though, the chain was way too slack and kept dropping under pressure so I got a train rather than push it. At the station I was approached by a guy with chib marks all over his face asking how much I'd paid for it. :) I truthfully told him it had cost next to nothing and didn't really work because the chain kept slipping. He still seemed quite keen and said if he'd any money he would buy it.

Thankfully the train came and he disappeared to the furthest carriage to avoid the conductor. Jakey ****. This was a budget project from the start due to redundancy- I didn't expect to get an offer the after the first mile on it.

A chain tensioner will take away the slack techno.....I did a similar job on my 'dale and I love riding it, it's on slick road tyres and geared 48/18......it gives a monster work out over the course of a couple of hours.....
