Caroline Alexander's team bike

Well Caroline definitely used Campag headsets at times…
It certainly looks like a Dynatech but I’ve never seen a production model with a top tube like that! - It’s such a distinctive feature and should be easy to spot in any old photos. Can’t recall ever seeing her on a frame like that though

If it is hers, I can well imagine her getting on it riding it once around the car park and asking them for a different bike!

For sure!
Looking at it again, that seat cluster lug is all wrong, it doesn’t extend down the seat tube at all. And those ridges/buttresses where the seat stays bolt on…..I know I’ve seen them before somewhere.. 🤔

It could be a dynatech - similarities to this one (from https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/your-first-ever-mountain-bike/page/2/)
Similar seat cluster and head tube and downtime cable stop - but different fork, rear dropouts and rear break cable stop (though that could be a side effect of the smaller size.

I have never seen one with an upward curved top tube (I think I would remember something that ugly!) but could it be due to using the same head tube lugs for different sizes - a lazy (and not very "team rider" respectful) way of making the tubes fit.

"late 80's one off custom build for Caroline Alexander"

When did Caroline Alexander start riding for the Raleigh team then?? 🤔

Probably 91. I don’t think it’s genuine unless it was a bizarre womens specific design that never saw the light of day.

According to her Wikipedia page, Caroline was a Kona rider in 91, Raleigh in 92, and then Louis Garneau in 93. Obviously can't guarantee the accuracy of that, but it would certainly rule out late 80's.

Whatever the score on this I find it unlikely to be what the seller claims it to be, as I've made enquiries and he has no proof to back up his assertion. Unless her name is stamped on the bb shell, which I think Raleigh did with their team bikes, and I forgot to ask about, it would probably be a safe bet to assume it's not her bike.

Bit late to the thread, I met her once at the top of Leith Hill - it is still a very clear memory :) . Had a quick chat - she had her team bike from Raleigh, very similar if not the same to that magazine cover. My biking buddy and me had Syncros Cattleprod stems and she commented that she was getting the same soon. She even picked up my bike to feel the weight (Marin Team Titanium) and was impressed. One of my happiest biking memories. I'm glad we were already at the top with a cup of tea and a slice of fruit cake otherwise she would have seen us do the struggle up the main root track and probably raced off...
