Carlton refresh

Trying a new photobucket account, should be a pic of a carlton I bought from this site, I have fitted disgusting temporary bar tape , new power train with a stronglight triple and a Sunttour VX gt RD

After a couple of trial runs I upgraded the bar tape and saddle to a Scapa B17 replica ( V nice)

This bike turned out to be a Raleigh carlton with the 26 tpi bottom bracket, I renewed this with one of the velo orange self expanding types.
The bike rides well and deals with the hills around here easily using the granny gears.

I had a lot of bother trying to squeeze 1.25 inch tyres under the mudguards, the front ended up as a 1.125 and clears OK.
The Mafacs are fitted with Kool stop salmon pads and stop very well, best brakes Ive got .
The paint is poor , not original , I may strip and brush enamel as a next winter project, non of the original decals remain only the headbadge.
The frame number suggests its from the 68 -71 period,
