Carlton Professional - Seat bolt snap

Nice looking Pro :) looks 73-75, is there a number on the bottom bracket? does it have CC cut out of it as well ? Typical early to mid 70's with nothing brazed on............the fashion at the time and a damn pain LOL

There was nothing at al I can think of that was "captive" and the remaining female half of the bolt should be a push fit and will knock out.

The Carltons of that era either came with a god old fashioned nut and bolt or with a two piece allen key jobby like the campag one in the picture. I'm not sure what you vace but I guess it's later than the frame......

I've not looked underneath yet for number, but there is the CC cut out.

When you say the the campag one in the picture are you refering to one I posted (probably not, as that wouldn't make sense) or the link posted by Robbied196. I've noticed this one

Do you think it will fit.

I've tried some pliers and also nail punch, but neither of those two things have worked to get the bits out of frame (I was careful).

Cheers,
Nick

the CC cutout and lack of brazings makes it 73-75, the frame number should give away the year of manufacture. Very,Very nicely made frames :) I guess you can feel I have a twinge of envy LOL

they badged them as a Raleigh and sold them in the US, drilling 3 holes in the head tube for the raleigh badge.

Yep, the seat bolt in the e-bay link should fit. The remainder of the seat bolt you have should be held in with nothing other than friction / corrosion / slightly deformed seat lug.

Shaun - looked at the bottom bracket and the number is 5002.

I've got the seat bolt out with the help of a friend. Basically I/was tightened so much the 'cups' had met and bowed inside the frame. We managed to get the bits out with nail punch, tapping the outer sides of cups.

Cheers,
Nick

Nice one :) Just need to get a new seat bolt....... :)

That's an unusual number for Raleigh UK, they were run by bean counters and by 1972 they had everything numbered with a letter to denote where it was made, a letter what month it was made and a number of the year of manufacture. all to do with keeping tabs on profit and loss.

is there another number running down the seat tube.........
