This is my Carlton Corsa which I purchased in November for £30.00 with the intention of 'cutting my teeth' on a rebuild. As can be seen, the bike was in pretty poor condition although not beyond TLC. At some stage it had been repainted although the original colour was visible beneath. I wanted to keep the bike as original as possible. I painted the frame myself with 'rattle cans' and got quite a good finish. The nearest colour was actually Kia Burnt Orange!
Dave Marsh, who runs a cycle shop in Maltby, South Yorkshire, gave me the benefit of his knowledge and experience, having worked as an Apprentice in the Worksop factory. Dave also supplied the decals, although I am still awaiting the 'Carlton Corsa' decal for the top tube and the decals for the front forks. Dave is hoping to open a shop, dedicated to the Carlton brand, in Worksop where we will be able to show case our bikes. We are in the early stages of trying to secure local funding and support for the idea.
I have a Brooks saddle to fit and the brake cables and bar tape which hopefully will be sorted next weekend. I couldn't bring myself to refit the aluminium spoke protector between the gears and rear wheel which may divide opinion.
Once finished, I can start rebuilding my second bike, a Carlton Continental - it keeps me off the streets.
