I frightened a road carbon rider the other day by apparently “sneaking up on him”🤷🏻‍♂️
I was riding a 60’s Claud made of double butted 531, almost zero road noise, whereas his was howling like a banshee.
Do you think they are even aware of how nasty they sound?
Oh and don’t get me started on the 20 person plastic peloton that roars past my back garden on a Wednesday club evening!
(Where’s that ex-police stinger darling? I’ve got a use for it)

if it isn't the whistling wind through the massive section rims, it's the bee in a tin can from the crazy loud hub.
I'll stick with the ali or steel frame ta. :)

Nah, I call bullshit on this one. in the same way you don't hear your car when you're in it, you can't hear how noisy you are on a bike until you're next to... you.

a carbon frame doesn't make a bike noisy. Could well be the running gear/setup though.

Carbon does resonate at a different frequency and it doesn't tend to have the dampening properties of steel or aluminium, so they can be a bit noiser than the more rudimentary materials, and can also act to amplify other noises (pawl noise being a great example) due to lower pressure waves required to make the material move.

the frame itself isn't inherently noiser, just that it makes other noises more pronounced.

or it's all bullshit and it's in mine and Peachy's heads.

oh and round here, the riders don't help with the noise, you can hear the aged knees of the slightly overweight dentists and doctors scream from a mile away, amplified by enough Rapha kit to make them visible too. :) (note, said tongue in cheek).

Slightly close to the bone that one 😂 😂 😂 (Although you'd never catch me on a road bike 😀 )
surely it's slight close to the root. :)

you say no road bike now, but just you wait. I used to say that too, then one day it just became easier to go on a road bike. I still refuse to say I'm a roadie, I'm just a MTB rider doing some fitness work, honest, and no, don't look at my strava where it's something like 92% road riding. shhhhhh.

You are a cheeky young whipper snapper novocaine ,I am a 60 year old ex dentist with similarly aged knees. But I would have to agree that I have never fancied a carbon bike,or a road bike for that matter.Off road every time and I am not in the slightest overweight,so there ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

There is a particular noise and clatter with carbon. It seems every gear change is amplified and the hub clicks sound hollow.

I suppose electric cars compensate for the noise pollution.

Just try a late 90's Principia.
In comparison to my Principia, carbon is eerily silent.
