It occurred to me today, as I was out and about, that I was riding a bike almost completely built up from parts sourced from car boot sales.

Nokian tyres, Club Roost grips and stem were from a boot sale last week and the bike from a boot sale last year. Even the chainrings were from a boot sale in Exeter last summer.

Anybody else?

I've never really scored at car boots :( .

Scored at the tip though:
Countless Raleigh road bikes.
Marin Muirwoods.
Campag wheels.
Ladies Dawes tourer.
Bianchi (Sadly suffered a frontal impact but great parts donor.)
Lots of mismatch components and frames.

I managed to get a very retro 'blue and silver splatter' Met helmet to go with my wheeler team kit, also scored an unused Suntour XCM rear mech. Not bad but I tend not to go very often, I have hoarding tendancies that dont mix well with the hole thing.

Amazing!

I have no luck with the skip though, a local one to me is a bit strict and I have been told off before. I only asked if i could have a look at something I saw in the metal skip....

My local tip was fantastic, could have whatever you wanted for no more than a tenner.

Sadly closed last year due to council cuts but have got some of my favourite pieces from there.

As for car boots near me, totally appalling...

I've not seen a single decent mountain bike since moving to flatshire, cambs. yet alone picked up anything interesting at the boot sale.

I could fill pages of tip finds but lets keep it car booty!

Heres one finished today from last week (absolutely nothing this week though)

Re:

Today's haul from the car boot sale below, new brake blocks for 25p a piece and a nos purple saddle from the same seller!

I've done alright at the car boot over the years, probably my best buy a few years ago was a mint pair of XT thumbies for £3.

The Kili Racer frame you (LGF) bought from me at the Peaks last year was also from the car boot.

With the car booting season well in swing it would be interesting if we can post up stuff here and keep this thread rolling.

Have had various retro bargains in the past (Curtis BMX for £25 and a bike with XT thumbies for £30 (later sold the bike without thumbies for £65)). Haven't been to any in the last couple of years due to kids, but hoping to this year.

I'd love to know what car boot sales people find proper MTBs (or anything at all!) at, I only ever see Apollos and other Chinese tat, and they're usually all kids' bikes too.
Closest I've had was a tiny GT Talera in a charity shop for £10, didn't buy it, but someone off here might have gone to have a look at it after I posted it up in the eBay watch forum.
