Captain Kirk’s Mag Revolution.. Part II (pg5 back for more)

Re:

So I thought I'd follow one of Longuns mantra's, Start cheap build it strong and then go ride the crap out of it, have plenty of laughs along the way and if you break it .......your just walking home pushing your parts donar for the next build !

Kind of Ironic that even with a change of direction I still manage to screw it up, got the cheap bit right but fell short in the strong and now I'm considering buy a parts donor at twice the price just to keep the old girl going...

Am I just unlucky here or a twat with a crap judgement of what to buy...

I guess I could rename my build "A Jerk on a Kirk"

Re: Captain Kirk’s Mg Revolution...ended with a crack !

Have you looked into glueing and pining it there are some seriously strong glues/epoxy resins out there which would do the job.

That pic is on the Kirk website along with a few more also taken at the same time

I guess you could also level the same statement at almost everything from the 80's/90's like square taper cranks, canti brakes, hell even Tioga Disc drives

Kirk went the same way as other one trick ponies when they'd over ran on their 15 minutes of fame...

They were in the end reduced to making tat for the common man... Just like Klien, what Trek/Dawes did to both brands isn't that dissimilar

Only British (Dawes) tat goes for a lot less on these shores, but do an ebay search for Kirk Revolution and Johnnie Foreigner has them listed for bigger bucks than a Klien

Re: Captain Kirk’s Mg Revolution...ended with a crack !

Square taper is still very much alive and kicking after some 7 decades along with a century of cantilever brakes.

Ask anyone who bought and rode a Kirk from new how many they went through before giving up.

Hey LGF I'm not for one minute pretending a Kirk is anymore than a turd from the early 90's, ...thats the attraction, like owning a Morris Marina or a Maxi from the 1970's

Re: Captain Kirk’s Mg Revolution...ended with a crack !

It was a nice idea but just went horribly wrong

and the phraise ''floggin' a dead 'orse'' springs to mind when trying to bring a frame back to life

Agreed, but for £45 it was worth a punt just for the experience..
Call it idle curiosity, just don't flame me for fixing this mother up and taking it out for round two

After all its only a broken (replaceable) drop out, just gotta find a new one or fix it.
