Canti and V brake Question

Hi guys,

I'm a bit new here and therefore a bit clueless, so apologies if this is a silly question!

I've just brought a Kona Fire Mountain on ebay, I think around 95 (it's a black Joe murray frame with canti breaks, although there is a few scuffs which show purple underneath)

Anyway, the plan was to take the cantis off and put some XT V-brakes I picked up a while ago on the bike.

Unfortunately, they don't fit, well they fit on the brake holding knobs, but when compressed they close below the rim!

Does this mean the frame (and fork) can't take V brakes? The V brakes are the wrong size? Is there a conversion kit?

I can probably post pictures later on if that would help describe the problem!

Thanks in advance

Graham

pictures are gonna help...there is no way normally that v breaks should not be a very easy bolt on conversion, the brake bosses on the frame are in the same place unlike older U brakes.

By the sounds of things the pads need adjusting to bring them level with the rims.

I guessed that too,but thought it too basic to suggest
