My frame takes a 26.8, and I wanted a Thomson, so I bought a 27.0 and worked out the relevant insertion length, masked off the exposed section, and spent half an hour "adjusting" the bottom of the post with some wet and dry paper... started with 600grit, then finished off with 800/1000 to take the scratches out. All it took off was the upper points of the machined ribbing anyway, so no structural deficit, and no damage to the exposed section
