Can't get excited about seatposts

Probably a lack of knowledge on my part, but seatposts are always the least important part of a build to me as far as style is concerned. The only choice I worry about is either black or silver. As long as they're strong enough that's fine.

What makes a seatpost much better/more expensive than others? It's a genuine question and I'm not knocking expensive posts.

I bent some and broke some and love some and hate some and admire some and want some but mostly I just use what I find at the tip or the car-boot sale...

i love the forged head of my proflex's xtr m910 seatpost, it is a polished work of art, as is the custom hollow bolt. My xizangs Ti USE post is utilitarian class at it's finest, and is so bendy it's easily like having a softail. Not forgetting the potential weight saving a high class post can offer, few other parts can shed so much weight for the cost.

A bad post just stands out like a saw thumb  You can't hid them unless you drop it in to the frame.

Pearonally seatpost choice is very important so so much in terms of colour but in terms of long term durability. I has to look good as well which is why I like Thomson posts. Never had a Shimano post.

The only older posts I get excited about are campag ones but anything campag gets me.

Although my lastest post purchase has been decided on budget alone as all the budget is going on the wheels and tyres. It will be replaced with a Thomsen eventually.

Have to say my favourite seatpost used to be my Thomson but now I prefer the Zoom cro-mo posts I have in my cro-mega and blue 'Wot'...

...I'd have them in all my bikes if I could get them

For modern's it has to be Smud carbon. Hand made. Not Chinese mass produced.
Top personal service, made to measure, ultra ultra light.
