Yeah the shifters feel really stiff so I will probably replace them, will i need to find a set of Shimano 7 speed shifters?

thats easy enough... just place an add in the wanted forum.. im sure you will get loads of replies... or just look in the for sale section. :)

Lovely looking frame that and I'm liking the early decal positioning, particularly the 'made in USA' sticker at the top of the seat tube.

Looking forward to seeing the build

I've found a company local to me that are going to respray and re-decal the frame with orignal decals, i'm going to keep the same colour frame, i'll post pictures of the refurbished frame at the end of the month. Does any one know the type of brake grips that this bike used? was it part of the gear shifting system?

Can anyone recommend what de-railers and shifters would be compatible with this bike, the cassette is a Shimano 7 Speed exage. I've read a few things that say the Exage groupset wasn't the great compared to what else was out at the time, so would like to equip the bike with something that is true to era but to a better standard, any advice?

I would go with LX at the minimum. Since the frame is blue, Deore DX would look nice, since it is silver. Can't go wrong with XT either.

as i am a bit new to building a bike, could anyone suggestion a suspension fork that would work with this frame? its a large frame not 100% sure of the size, looking for something that is A) a good fork and B) fits in with the bike. Thanks!

It's going to have to be something old to get a 1in steerer and sufficiently short travel. I've used 80mm forks on a very similar (slightly later) frame with acceptable results, but I wouldn't want to go beyond there and less would keep more of an edge to the handling. Something Pace would look well on it :)

my orignal fork was threaded, will i need to buy something to make a pace fork fit, as all the ones i'm looking at are not threaded, is this where a decent headset comes into play? Would it be hard to find a 1in headset?
