Cannondale SM2000 -1990

Hello, I’ve finished these 1990 Cannondale SM2000 from 1990 (16 inch). All parts are nearly original, except Dx shifter (I’ve got the xt sti shifters, I’ll changed later). I changed cable hanger (Onza pill is coming), tyres (original was too hard - old), cables brakes, brakes pads, replace saddle, cranks … It’s a very good bike. Very sharp, fast, … I ask myself if I repaint it ? Looks like a survivor and work great, better as original condition. When I was 16, It was my dream bike …

Nice. That was one of my dream bikes back in the day as well. I couldn't afford to buy one outright so ended up buying the same frame with peperoni forks and building it up bit by bit as I could afford parts. I loved that bike, probably because I was fit back then so rode the paint off it.

Nice job!

Sweet bike! I used to dream about SM2000s as well back in the day. Had to settle for M700 back then and finally bought me 1992 M2000 recently.
However, I think 90-91 paintjobs were their most beautiful paint schemes on any of the M2000s. My 1992 is unfortunately a bit boring mix of grey and black.

Personally, I would not go for a respray. I think it has good patina, and the original paint is quiet special. Hey.....I recognise that headset...Contax?...and not Campag Contax but the German company Contax. Keeping the headsets tight on these farmes was a rolling issue...for my SM800 I settled on Campag Centaur, and that seemed to do the trick. But I used a Contax on my Marin ti 1990 - excellent headset.

Hello, Yes I let the frame in the patina, I’ve got too many Cannondale in a clean condition. Thanks, I tried to find some information about the headset (original was XT black) ... no Mavic, no Tange, no Stronglight, ... but the Sm2000 come from Germany, ... that an very good headset. 👍

No there is nothing about that headset on the internet AT ALL!
I bought mine on London in 1995 and I have never seen another one - and I have seen a LOT of headsets in my life.
And I know that it was German.
Mine had CONTAX written on it in fine black lettering - is yours the same?
