For Sale Cannondale f4000? Frame

It has Cadd3 on it, that’s the really easy one. When cannondale added disc mounts they created the Caad4 and the Caad3 was the basic frame for below the F1000 models.

I didn’t know that. Couldn’t that be faked by decals though?

I’m far from a Cannondale expert but always was told to look for the top luggage mount. If it’s not got it , it’s decent.

This frame in question could be identified by the serial number and by using vintage Cannondale site could it not?

Yeah, that’s what they did, Caad4 started in 99 (they were awful for mid season changes mind you). Rack mounts are definitely a sign, and when Caad3 was the top frame it didn’t have the rack mounts, Caad2 did. The frames stock and hasn’t been sprayed at the front, I think it’s a F700, can’t remember.

The frame was originally black at the front the guy I got it off, son did it. He took most of the parts off for a work bike but that bike got stolen with the good xtr parts.

I think that’s a story to fit with the picture of the F4000 in the catalogue. The frame would have had to have been painted professionally to be blended that well, had the decals down graded to say Caad3 rather than Caad4 and the rack mounts removed welded and repaint. Forks resprayed as well. It’s not the F4000 in the 1999 catalogue.

Also what model Fatty is it? That’s a good way to tell also as it’s not often they are swapped around.
Can’t see any decals. It also has a lock out lever which again means it’s the Fatty D fork and either a F700 or F900.

I can’t see someone adding rear rack holes, spraying half the frame, spraying the forks, putting lower end decals on it and changing the suspension for a poorer fork.

Front end was black.
Still not sure on which model it is.
The guy I got it from had it for years and had always been black and silver.
He's not the type of guy to go round messing with stuff..but he's son did

I spoke with my friend about it and when bought it was a police action bike. Bought in 2003 and so has no serial number.
