The M505's may fit, Magura Marta's would but they're pretty pricy, even used.

I tried the shifter outboard of the levers, due to the cable stop & what not it didn't butt up close at all & was a no go but depending on the lever may work better than what I was using (XT M785's)

With how good the new Shimano brakes are I've been willing to compromise on the shifters rather than the brakes. Which will probably end up as the answer.

Oh well, still have thumbies on all my classic rides.

I never sorted out that problem, the bike is still using those XT shifter pods.
Actually it isn't "using" them, it's been standing in the bike room for 2 years now. I've given up on the bike because the brakes still feel like shit IMO. According to several LBSes there's nothing wrong with them and they're about as good as disc brakes get, so it's probably just me not liking the feel/feedback.
Seeing as the bike is disc-only, there's no way I'm ever going to be able to sort that out. I would have sold it this spring, but I've been too busy. Now's not the time to sell either if you want to get any money for it, so it'll be in storage for another winter.
