Can you put spd pedals on vintage bike?

Hi,

I have a Raleigh Team Banana bike and love it. I am thinking though of putting spd pedals and using cleats to ride it though rather than my current toe clips.

My question is though, if I just buy spd pedals, can I definitely put the pedal on the bike or can the size of the nut differ from the current ubiquitous one-size-fits-all size?

for a raleigh it would be an english thread 9/16 this is all you need to bear in mind

Yes. Will be fine. 9/16ths on most bikes, just watch out for bmx as they are 1/2

In my far-from-exhaustive experience, I've not come across anything (other than 1/2" BMX style cranks) that isn't a 9/16" pedal thread.

So yes, aaaaaalmost certainly...
