Can you identify my recent buy

The seat post clamp and pannier mounts on the rear stays definitely say Marin to me. As for age I would say it's pre 1991 not quite certain of model though.

the 1990 Team Marin came with spinner forks but the groupset is all XT, so the next one down i think, and the stem is different

wheels are definately not original, but the front mech - xt, chainset - mt60, brakes - mt62 and shimano deore dx look original. bb is sealed,

My reasons, well its a marin deffo. front mechs always seem to survive best IMO and as its period correct and XT , suggesting a Team Marin.

The forks dont look like the usually slender and whippy spinner forks, they look a bit thicker, low and behold when i look in the archive at the Team Marin it came with a tange fork and not the spinner shared by the majority of the rest of the range.

A note of caution, i am usually wrong,

the paint is hammerite garden gate paint

1990/1991 Team Marin had toptube routed rear mech.

Serial and more likely the colour of the forks would give the model away

Almost certainly a 1990 Pine Mountain, even if only the brakes are original. Crackled Hammerite paintjob actually looks quite cool!

is there a definitive seatpost size - i cant quite read what is already fitted (it wasnt stuck) and have read on here possibly either 29.2mm or 29.5mm??

That's a very large size for an old steel frame, given it probably uses a 28.6mm front mech ;)
Measure the seatpost, either the diameter or use a bit of maths on the circumference.
Though from the few post I've read it's 29.5/29.6* if a Pine Mountain probably depends on how damaged the frame is. So would mean you're in the middle sized front mech band 31.8mm ?

It might depend on it's actual model...
Pine Mountain is what I was thinking, but serial number and colours under the forks might help.
