Can you get wider bb shells than 73mm?

I ask this because i want to fit a bb mounted chain device on my zaskar but the shells arent wide enough to fit one. I know it would be possible with a hollowtech chainset but really i would rather stick with my 90s raceface turbines which have given me years of faultless service

Thanks :)

Don't think e-type bottom brackets exist in square taper, they have the extra length in the right hand cup to fit an e-type front mech. But octalink onwards. You may be able to fit an octalink cartridge cup onto a square taper cartridge......... I know on some models both cups are removable. With a hammer.

Re:

E-type square taper BB's do exist. As far as I recall, they were introduced with the XT M739 groupset circa 1996/97.

In the BB M950 XTR bottom brackets, both cups are removable, however this isn't a typical cartridge bottom bracket so I highly doubt that the bearings will fit right. In the M952 cartridge BB the right (drive side) cup is a part of the shell assembly and non removable (the left side is but that would be useless in your case). Technically all you would need is a right side BB cup that's 7-8mm longer than the standard 17-18 mm ones, then you could use a lock-ring to mount the chain device plate (I assume it's 2-3mm thick?). I have a couple of BB's lying around but all of their cups are in the 16-18 mm range. You would need a cup that's in the 25 mm range (can't say I ever saw one but maybe they exist).

Phil Wood can supply what you need

Possibly look for the heavy duty 83mm downhill setups?

theres only one on the whole of ebay and its a 68mm. these must be fairly thin on the ground

I am missing sonething?
The e bracket is abkut 3 mm wide and fits between the bb and cup.

The lh cup would screw in a bit further which it can do since it has no shoulder.

It would mean lh crank is 3 mm closer to the chainstays, which wilk be ok if there is enough clearance.
So whats the problem lh crank clearance?

Fluffy nailed it. Check Phil Wood's site Sean. If you need posting assistance to the UK, let me know.
