Can someone date my M-Trax Ti then ?

Dyna-Tech and M-Trax frames (maybe other Raleigh frames), can be dated from the prefix letter of the frame stamping (under the BB, not the Dyna-Tech frameset sticker). A=1990, B=1991 etc. For example, my Odyssey is B, making it 1991.

I've got an identical Ti-4000 with the Pace RC-35 - they were an option on the bike instead of the UGLI bonded titanium fork (bonded steel on Ti-3000). Though the frame is 1994 E prefix, it may be a 1995 model as it was not bought new by me until May 1996 when it was end of line - and end of line of bonded frames, Dyna-Techs were welded frames by then. Only minor differences between my bike and yours - the shift windows are different, and mine is a bit more scuffed!

Not heard the Dyna-Tech name story before. Raleigh USA made bonded frames (or possibly imported frames from the UK) and badged them as Technium (I don't think the Dyna-Tech brand was used in the USA, possibly as I recall seeing a road-roller of that name!), some of these used aluminium tubes instead of steel or titanium. Some of these were garishly painted - bright (and I mean bright) yellows and greens.

Great post cheers.

Forgot how interesting stuff you forget can be !

I'm loving these forums. Lots of brilliant little flashes from the past. Got pictures of your collection ?

Technium. Perhaps thats ringing a bell... Wonder if my frame was labelled as one? Can't remember. And sadly, don't even have a single photo of it. Lost in the mists of time eh?

Have you ever done work on your RC35's ? I've not and am sure the sproingy bit must be past it's best by now....

I've spent the last day grinning and trying to date my various mountain bikes. Had a nice Marin Eldridge Grade at one point too. People at work were looking at me weirdly as I sat grinning thinking about all the daft crashes etc.!

Thanks all for making me feel right at home.

If you need elastomers for your pace forks, speak to justbackdated on here, he is our resident pace spares guru...an ex pace man who now looks after all the retro end of the pace ranges.

Not yet, but I need to. They are well and truely f*$#ered. Rebound is measured in hours  I'll contact the chap mentioned to get some new bouncy bits. Also need to get the correct front mech - that destroyed itself some years back and I replaced it with a period XTR item, but that's top-pull instead of bottom (or VV).

Nice tip. I'll give him a shout.

Never been in the forks though - might ask his advice....

Cheers.

When You say 'date' their is a guy in the UK who would love to date your bike. Just have a box of kleenex handy

Darmtb - thanks very much. Dead interesting reading about it.

Interesting how things change over the years...

And I used to be a bit like that with my Kona Cindercone BITD... Used to keep it in my lounge (single lad at the time LOL) and often found myself gazing at it.

ps. don't tell anyone that.
