Can anyone identify this in-line Rear Mech Cable widget? Original Owner was having trouble with water running down inside the cable housing causing problems. The Bike Shop supplier then fitted the yellow widget + an Avid Rollamajig which cured the problem. I'd love to know what the mystery item is, who made it & what its supposed to do.

There was a prototype rear mech that came up for sale about 9 months ago and posted up in the eBay section with a lengthy thread ensuing great idea but strange looking
