hi
can someone please tell me if campy mountain shifters
are compatible with shimano or sram derailleurs?
or do you need to use campy derailleurs as well?
also can those using campy tell me if they are any good?
have heard mixed reviews.
thanks for any help in advance.

Early ones had a friction mode so will work, later 8 speeders didn't so the indexing probably won be great

Personally I would match shifters and rear mech, it annoying if that part of a bike doesn't work nicely

Bit more leeway with brakes, chainset etc

Re:

The thumb shifters were a good design - they worked and were very durable, just a bit hefty in design.

The twist grip worked well but as it was the whole grip that twisted, rather than just a collar (like SRAM etc), the problem used to be unintentional shifting.

Without modification of the derailleur and / or sprocket spacing, you need a Campagnolo MTB derailleur with these levers ... SRAM might be OK (opinion is divided), Shimano won't work.

Campag rear derailleurs (RD) made post 2001 won't work - the geometry was changed then and the cable pull:derailleur movement ratio changed with it, meaning that newer RDs are not compatible with older levers.
