Campagnolo bottom bracket woes - help needed

Building up a lovely 1960 Carpenter and stumbled on the bb issue.

112mm Super Record bottom bracket SS-68 and Super Record chainset combo hitting (non-crimpled) rear stay. Non drive side is protruding out a bit much, while drive side does not reach 20mm as it should according to Campagnolo. Strangely the frame's bottom bracket shell seems to be 66mm instead of 68mm, could that be an issue?

Tried with another chainset (Gran sport) and same result. Have other chainsets, like Stronglight 49D or Rino in spare parts box, but would really want to keep Campagnolo set up if possible.

Options to resolve this?

I had a similar fouling issue on my 1949 Claud Butler that had a 66mm BB shell, solved is as per Guiness's suggestion - but by using a spacer from a Sturmey Archer hub sprocket on the drive side cup before asembling.

Of the spindle is not sticking out as far as it should from the DS cup, check that you haven't installed a thick wall cup instead of the thin wall type
How would I know the difference, the bottom bracket is SR, marked SS-68?

From my experience most vintage British bikes have a 65-66mm bottom bracket shell. This usually complicates the issue.
I usually put a freewheel spacer under the drive side cup.
If I add spacer, say 2mm, that would perhaps make small chainring clearing the stay by about the same, not enough I think? If a thin walled cup @foz mentioned adds another 2mm or so than this would probably work.

I do have Gran Sport bottom bracket which is again circa 2mm longer, but it has an Italian thread unfortunately. Anyone for swaps?
